feeding america (2022)

Feeding America presents a biting critique of consumerism, privilege, and the systemic disparities that define modern society. The larger-than-life figure, playfully posed with an exaggerated smile, waters a patchwork landscape of farmlands… a surreal commentary on the agricultural backbone that sustains a nation often blind to the labor and inequity beneath its abundance.

The figure’s attire (both hypersexualized and nostalgic) calls attention to the commodification of bodies, labor, and resources. Her carefree expression belies the weight of the piece’s message: the unsettling ease with which society consumes without acknowledging the systems of exploitation that make such consumption possible.

Hannah’s use of surrealist techniques is evident in the distortion of scale and perspective, creating a dreamlike tableau that is both whimsical and unsettling. Feeding America urges viewers to examine their own complicity in systems that prioritize excess over equity and to confront the uncomfortable truths hidden beneath the surface of everyday life.
