THE SURREAL SPECTACLE - Art Scene West

The gallery at Art Scene West seeks to lure those who delve into the weird and unknown crevices of their boundless imagination to bring forth a viewing spectacle that is oddly attractive. They want only those unafraid to portray the bizarre, counterculture truths hiding in the shadows of plain sight. They’ve welcomed all mediums of 2D and 3D art meant to challenge the viewer's mind, and cause a stir of wonder and intrigue to the precipice of delirium. This event will showcase unusual sights from bright artists who are unashamed of their discontentment of the status quo. Conformity is not welcomed, for we wish to celebrate the timeless absurdity of Surrealism from contemporary artists, worldwide. Welcome to The Surreal Spectacle. If you’re in the San Diego area, stop by Art Space West and check out, “Invading Space” and “To See Strange Things”, both on display and for sale there only through April 27th!

NON-THEMED SHOW - The Hive Gallery & Studios

Founded in Spring of 2005, The Hive Gallery and Studios is a truly unique and vibrant gallery/studio experience. It is a virtual think-tank, buzzing with 5 featured artists a month, two full galleries, 25 working artists, and an artist-made item store. One of the longest standing galleries on the Downtown Art Walk, the Hive is on the forefront of establishing the Los Angeles Metro area as a world-wide art mecca. In addition, the gallery serves as an arts community hub, holding various fundraising events, and gallery programs such as yoga, figure drawing, private movie screenings, and more,

Fundamental to The Hive Gallery’s vision of creating a thriving community of artists, is its opening monthly art show.  “ We seek to break down the quiet, traditional, art-on-white-walls, viewing experience and create a gallery atmosphere that is as equally alive as it’s artwork.”  Openings usually include 5 featured artists, up to 100 group show artist, live painting, and more.

The art featured in the gallery leans toward neo-pop illustration in nearly all mediums that are highly crafted and affordable. Artists that show at The Hive have proven their dedication to the community by consistently producing high quality work on a month to month basis. Frequent monthly shows encourage the participating artists to fine tune their craft, develop new communication forms, and experiment with particular styles, imagery, and techniques.

They chose honey’s piece, “My Strange Balcony” to appear in this month’s non-themed portion of their monthly show!

The show will run for 3 months so check it out!

DEVIL IN THE DETAIL - Heavy Manners Library

DEVIL IN THE DETAIL - Heavy Manners Library

Heavy Manners is a lending library, gallery, and bookstore that seeks to provide a space for developing, sharing, and discussing artwork and creative practice.

Because formal art education is increasingly becoming cost prohibitive and inaccessible, Heavy Manners hopes to be an alternative resource. Our collection focuses on self and independently published books, zines, and other media. Additionally, the library works directly with artists and small publishers, to make overlooked, out of print, and hard to find media accessible.  After signing up for one of our membership options, members receive a library card and are able to borrow books from the library. Visitors are welcome to browse or scan our collection during our open hours.

In tandem with the mission of the lending library, Heavy Manners also presents events and gallery shows in our exhibit space and basement theater. With these programs, we hope to create opportunities for budding artists to share their work and established artists to experiment with new projects. We prioritize programming that provides educational opportunities for those in the community.

This collage-based art show, inspired by the  DIY aesthetic of punk zine culture, invites viewers to dive into intricately layered works that transition from the trivialities of materialism to the expansive metaphysical. The intricate layers of the pieces challenge the audience to carefully examine each detail, revealing hidden narratives and larger existential questions within the chaos. The devil is in the details. Double take. Where’s Waldo?

We’re proud to be a part of their inaugural art show! They chose three of honey’s pieces, “Your Body, My Choice”, “Vertigo Violet”, and “11Eleven”.

Join us for the opening reception, Jan. 9th from 7pm - 10pm!

ESSENCE OF A WOMAN - MVA Gallery
Oct

to Nov 20

ESSENCE OF A WOMAN - MVA Gallery

The MVA gallery in Bethlehem, PA invited artists to explore, in art, the essence of a woman -- her physical, psychological and spiritual characteristics.

A simple portrait of a woman in tranquil repose or a complex image of her actively performing personal and professional roles. She can reveal vulnerability or strength. Or she can communicate a universe of other traits, emotions, aspirations and challenges as you portray a woman's exterior and interior realities.

In addition, images can examine issues such as cultural influences affecting a woman including societal expectations and pervasive stereotypes. Through the diverse approaches of portraiture, artists can raise provocative questions about identity and perception.

As it happens, honey has A LOT of work that fits this call but “Turn Forever” was the piece that resonated with the jury!

This marks honey’s first show outside California!
