invading space (2024)
Invading Space examines the collision between the past and the digital age, merging classical portraiture with the stark aesthetics of early video game culture. Hannah replaces the subject’s head with a vintage television screen displaying an 8-bit arcade game, transforming the figure into a commentary on how technology reshapes our understanding of identity and presence.
The flowing, elegant garments of the subject stand in contrast to the pixelated graphics, highlighting the tension between the timeless and the ephemeral. Black-and-white illusion paper waves disrupt the background, emphasizing the constant flux and distortion introduced by modern media.
In Invading Space, Hannah invites viewers to reflect on the ways technology intrudes upon and reshapes the human experience. The piece challenges us to consider whether the digital world enhances our existence or merely fragments it, leaving us suspended between what is real and what is rendered.
