deep thoughts (2022)
Deep Thoughts immerses the viewer in an exploration of duality… consciousness and subconsciousness, reality and illusion. The split face at the center of the composition juxtaposes stark realism with an entrancing swirl of illusion paper, pulling the viewer into an endless spiral of contemplation. The hypnotic pattern serves as Hannah’s visual cue to pay attention, drawing us deeper into the fragmented psyche she so often explores.
The piece reflects the tension between surface-level identity and the hidden complexities beneath. While one half presents a serene, composed exterior, the other dissolves into an infinite void, suggesting that true self-awareness often lies beyond what is easily seen or understood.
Hannah’s surrealist influence is palpable here, echoing Dalí’s fascination with the subconscious and dream states. The deliberate use of luxury branding in the background nods to the commodification of identity, where external labels often overshadow inner truth.
Deep Thoughts is an invitation to pause, reflect, and confront the endless layers of thought that define our existence. It is both a mirror and a portal, challenging the viewer to seek authenticity in a world obsessed with surface impressions.
