vertigo violet (2024)

In Vertigo Violet, Honey invites the viewer into a vibrant, dizzying landscape of color and motion, a visual metaphor for the beautiful yet tumultuous nature of romantic relationships… specifically those shared between women. Constructed from radiant spirals of illusion paper, the composition draws the eye inward, creating an exhilarating sensation of emotional intensity and disorientation. Like the complexities of intimacy, attraction, and partnership, the spirals entice and overwhelm simultaneously, embodying the thrilling but occasionally destabilizing experience of deep emotional connection.

Honey affectionately refers to the piece as her "sapphic ode" to lesbian relationships, capturing both their beauty and complexity through dynamic visual rhythms and rich symbolism. Relationships, much like the spiraling illusions depicted here, can leave one feeling exhilarated yet off-balance, certain yet uncertain… caught in a dance between autonomy and unity, desire and vulnerability, clarity and confusion.

Ultimately, Vertigo Violet is not just a celebration of queer love but also a statement about the universal experience of profound intimacy, regardless of orientation. The artwork invites viewers (regardless of their own identities) to reflect on how passion, partnership, and deep emotional connections can at once lift us up and spin us around, leaving us joyfully dizzy in the embrace of love.
