turn forever (2023)
Turn Forever reflects on cycles of transformation, spirituality, and mortality through a hauntingly beautiful composition. Set against a barren desert landscape that serves as both ground and sky (divided only by a thin line of distant horizon) Hannah creates a surreal environment where time feels suspended.
At the center sits a striking woman, adorned with crystals and skulls, embodying both life and death, beauty and decay. Steer horns extend from her head, evoking ancient symbols of strength and sacrifice, while a crystal orb rests on her forehead where the “third eye” would be, suggesting heightened perception and spiritual awareness. Another orb floats just above her head, emphasizing the ethereal connection between the physical and metaphysical realms.
The presence of three moths, symbols of transformation and fleeting existence, and three sapphires, often associated with wisdom and protection, adds layers of meaning to the piece. Turn Forever invites viewers to confront the endless cycles of existence (birth, death, and rebirth) while reflecting on the transient beauty that defines human life and the unseen forces that guide it.
Hannah’s surrealist influence is evident in the blending of natural elements with mystical iconography, urging viewers to consider what lies beyond the visible and how the unseen continuously shapes our realities.
